Cook the rice in a large pan of boiling water for about 10 minutes, or until cooked. Drain, rinse under cold water and drain again, to remove excess starch.
Put the cooked rice and all other ingredients into a large bowl and mix well together.
With slightly damp hands, shape the mixture into 8 thick burger patties. If you want to serve as an appetizer that works as finger food, you can shape the mixture into 16 smaller patties that are bite-sized.
Put the butter into a non-stick skillet, add the burgers and cook for about 10 minutes, turning them over several times so that the sides are browned and the meat is cooked through.
Serve hot with a homemade yogurt dip and some green salad on the side.
