Type 2 Diabetes Questions

Can Glimepiride and Metformin cause interstitial cystitis of the bladder?

Dec 9, 2016

We could not find cases of people taking metformin and that being associated with Cystitis. However, of the 12,540 consumers reporting to the FDA on side effects while taking Glimepiride 302 also had Cystitis. The association of Glimepiride and Cystitis is greater if :

– you are female, and/or
– are 60+ or older and/or
– have been taking the drug for 5 – 10 years and/or
– have also been taking the medication Lisinopril for kidney issues

We recommend you speak to your doctor about this.
